Alissia Canady is a licensed attorney representing individuals and families harmed by the negligence or wrongful conduct of others. The Canady Law Firm addresses personal injury, medical negligence, wrongful death, employment discrimination, discrimination in places of public accommodation and civil rights violations, and assist those who need guidance resolving family law matters, and real estate transactions. Alissia was formerly an Assistant Prosecutor in Jackson County where she earned a reputation as a proven advocate for victims and gained substantial trial experience. In 2015 Alissia was elected to the City Council of Kansas City, Missouri to represent the Fifth Council District. Alissia continues to be a catalyst for change. Characterized as “plain-spoken and bold”, Alissia became the first African-American woman to receive the KC Star’s endorsement for Mayor. A native of Kansas City and a graduate of Northeast High School, she went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Finance from Park University, a Graduate Certificate in Community Economic Development from UMKC, and a Law degree from the University of South Dakota.
Alissia is licensed to practice law in Missouri and is a member of the Missouri Bar, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and the Jackson County Bar Association.
Alissia is no stranger to the value of education and hard work. She held a full-time job while attending Northeast High School and simultaneously supporting her mother and family. Later, she spent time in the banking industry while putting herself through college at Park University, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in finance.
For several years, Alissia ran her own small business in Midtown Kansas City learning the rewards and challenges of entrepreneurship first-hand. Ever a student, she would later obtain a Graduate certificate in Community Economic Development from UMKC, her Law degree from the University of South Dakota, and has since traveled internationally. Alissia has gained exposure to varying regional and cultural experiences that lend to her well-rounded perspective on public policy issues.
Alissia currently lives in South Kansas City with her adorable dog Macie and is a member of the Jackson County Chapter of The Links Inc. and serves on several boards and commissions.
